Ex-football pro George Weah challenges Liberia’s army to a friendly match before his inauguration.
George Weah is due to become Liberia’s new president and commander-in-chief on Monday – but before that, the 51-year-old put his army’s football team through its paces with the help of his former teammates.
The ex-Liberian international played for Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Chelsea and Manchester City and later returned to France with Marseille.
The three-time African Footballer of the Year and the first African player to win the Ballon d’Or defeated Joseph Boakai and will now succeed the first elected female president in Africa, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
His inauguration would be the first time power was transferred from one democratically elected government to another.
