The richest African, for the seventh year in a row, is Nigerian cement and commodities tycoon Aliko Dangote, with a net worth that Forbes pegs at $12.2 billion. Aliko Dangote GCON is a Nigerian billionaire, who founded and chairs the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities in Nigeria and other African countries, including Benin, Ethiopia, Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, and Zambia. He owns nearly 88% of publicly-traded Dangote Cement through a holding company.
Dangote also owns stakes in publicly-traded salt, sugar and flour manufacturing companies. Dangote is looking beyond cement and has been investing in a fertilizer production company and a large oil refinery.
