Football fans in Lagos had a fulfilled day as they were offered a rare chance to watch a match with Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, at the Landmark Event Center courtesy of Guinness Nigeria PLC.
When asked who was the best African player he played with while at Arsenal, Henry picked Kanu Nwankwo. He explained that Papilio’s technical ability stands him out.
“Don’t forget about Lauren I also love his game but when it comes to techniques I will give it to Kanu. I am not saying this because I am in Nigeria even if I was in another country I will say same. Kanu was very good, but he is underrated, he is so humble, nice guy, you never hear any bad thing coming from him, just positive things,” Henry told journalists on Sunday.
The Arsenal legend said he was thrilled with his maiden visit to Nigeria. He commended the huge interest in football by Nigerians.
“I first learned about Nigeria when some players came over to play in the French League like Victor Ikpeba and the late Stephen Keshi. Then I saw them at the USA 1994. I think Nigeria is a nice place and I am here to enjoy myself with the fans,” Henry stated.
The French striker also played for clubs like Monaco, Barcelona, and Juventus, but his time in London is fondly remembered across the world.
