A double from Sadio Mane, along with goals from Mo Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri helped Liverpool overcome Cardiff 4-1 at Anfield to go top of the Premier League today.
Salah scored twice in Wednesday’s win, and continued his return to form with the opener here, finishing from the angle after Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum had had shots blocked.
Cardiff started the second half brightly, and had a goal correctly disallowed for offside against Sean Morrison.
However, Sadio Mane doubled the lead with a brilliant left-footed effort just after the hour mark, only for Callum Patterson to become the first player to score at Liverpool in the league since Michail Antonio found the net for West Ham in a 4-1 defeat back in February.
Shaqiri quickly put to bed any hopes of a Cardiff comeback with a calm finish to seal all three points, before Mane added his second from Salah’s ball.
Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season and now have a three point cushion over Manchester City, who visit Tottenham on Monday.
